A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist is the most credible source for nutrition information. An RDN is highly trained with a degree in human nutrition which includes not only counseling and theory classes, but also many rigorous science courses in biology, chemistry and physiology. In addition, every RDN has to complete a one year accredited internship and pass a national examination. Once licensed, they are required to complete approved continuing education in order to maintain their license. An RDN is considered a health care professional and thus able to accept insurance reimbursement for their services.
A nutritionist can also be a nutrition expert, and may even possess a nutrition degree, but their level of training varies widely. Anyone can call themselves as a nutritionist or nutrition expert, but you must be aware of the possible discrepancies with their knowledge. There are no regulations to this claim and thus nutritionists cannot accept insurance reimbursement for their services.
Providers at Ft. Collins Nutrition are Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. In addition to these credentials, they have received a minimum of 75 hours per term of accredited nutrition continuing education.

The first visit is the most comprehensive. We review your health history, chat about your current diet, supplements and medications, and discuss which goals are important to you. We take a bit of time for nutrition education and propose an action pathway.
Between visits, we gather more information, such as labs or a food and symptom journal. We will ask that you try an action step and assess the outcomes. At each visit we will offer more concrete education and action items.
Plan on a full hour for each appointment.
